Oh my good sweet Lord, I swear to God anyone who might vote for a ticket that might very well end up giving us a President Palin ought to just as well commit themselves already to any mental institution. Otherwise the rest of us will have no other last resort but to just shoot ourselves in the head. This is such a joke.

I couldn't have said it better. I saw a "McPalin" sticker on a vehicle entering a parking lot yesterday and actually waited to see what kind of person would admit they support that mess.

I'm a retired person, former Democrat with eyes to see and ears to hear. I can see from reading georgia mountain man's blog preferences that he goes looking for the wrong kind to agree with and might want to seek God's opinion above his apparent buddies. mom2

Georgia Mountain Man said...

Anonymous,

How can you be sure that God hasn't already given me his opinion? I'm sure you will be more than happy to tell me what his opinion is, right? RR

Anonymous said...

No, georgia mountain man you can find his opinion in His Word, the Bible. If you think the Democrat party has the answer, then the question is very dumb. Not enough Republicans have the answer either, but their platform doesn't smell as bad as the Democrats platform. mom2

Georgia Mountain Man said...

God isn't on either side. Both sides can't claim Him, and He isn't going to take a side in this battle of man against man. Neither side is evil, although GW Bush and Dick Cheney have pushed the envelope a bit. Both sides are Christian. We, His children, have to decide how we feel about the issues and do what we think is right. You have your opinion and I have mine. God will let us decide.

This whole thing is not a religious issue although there are many trying to make it so for reasons known only to themselves. God is going to let us fight the political battles. He could care less whether Democrats or Republicans win or lose. I don't believe I will find either of them in the Bible.

You evidently overlooked the part about the shedding of innocent blood when it came to the baby in the womb, since you place so much confidence in the Democrat party. Then there is God's plan for the family when he created male and female and told them to multiply, as your favorite party now wants to redefine marriage and two same sex cannot multiply the created human without intervention (two males never). Go read Jeremiah and see if God is not interested in morals of countries. mom2

Georgia Mountain Man said...

I'm sure God is interested in the morals of countries, but you can't legislate morality. You can't stop abortion by outlawing it. Just like prohibition the crooks take over and kill women in the back rooms of flop houses. You can't stop homosexuality. Two people of the same sex are going to get together. Men and women are reproducing like crazy, but many of them aren't married. They aren't taking care of those kids. The fathers aren't around. The institution of marriage isn't endangered by same sex marriage. It is endangered by people like McCain, Gingrich, Clinton, Edwards and thousands of others, who cheat on their wives. Particularly those like Edwards, McCain, and Gingrich who cheated on their sick wives. Ronald Reagen was married how many times? These and the millions who live together out of wedlock are the ones who endanger the institution of marriage.

You explain Obama's recipe for cleaning up this mess. He says Jesus is not the only way, he thinks there are other ways also, so if he does not even understand the most important aspect of his own belief...what earthly good can he be toward the ills of this world? mom2

Georgia Mountain Man said...

Obama said that good people of other religions are as much "children of God" as anyone else. One does not have to be a believer, an expert on his faith, or believe like others, to do good in this world. I ask you this. How much do you think John McCain understands about his faith, if he really has one? I think he has started going to church occasionally, since he started running for president, but he hasn't cleaned up his mouth or his mind very much, considering the names he calls his wife and those who oppose him. I expect, if asked, that he couldn't express very much at all about his faith. Yet he can do good in the world. I don't think he would be a very good president, but he has done and will do good things for the world.

Obama's choice of friends and associates all his life have been people with unsavory biases against America. Read your religious news sites and see what is happening to Christians around the world and see if you are willing to bring to the White House a man that is better friends with Muslims than he is to God's chosen people, (except when he appears before a Jewish group) then consider who is the least friendly religion to Christianity. I cannot believe the older people like yourself and myself that will cling to the Democrat party over the economics, when we should know that Jesus Christ is our Saviour and God is our provider. God has not changed and His principles have remained our standard. We will either be hot or cold and face the consequences. Wake up! mom2

Georgia Mountain Man said...

I assume that you read that piece of information about Obama on your religious news sites. They have quite a bias against Obama, many calling him a Muslim, which is crap as you and I both know. I don't know how you got the information that he has unsavory friends with a bias against the US. I'd bet that it was from spam email or some right wing clap trap that has taken everything the man has ever said out of context. No, I don't believe it. He was raised by his middle class white grandparents. He isn't going to sell America out to Muslims. I am not so insecure in my religious views that I fear other world religions. I certainly am concerned about economics, because I know what happens every time a Republican gets in the White House. The deficits go up and it costs me more to live. Now...I am not going to convince you, and you certainly aren't going to change my mind, so let's call a truce here. I will vote for Obama and feel good about it, because I know that the country cannot stand another four years of Bush-like rule, with an airhead VP a heartbeat away from the Presidency. Not that Biden makes me comfortable, but certainly more so than the Alaskan bimbo who can hardly put an intelligent sentence together.

Anonymous said...

Go ahead. That's your choice. God is still in control. His will, will be done and we will be held accountable for our actions and time will show the consequences. I was a Democrat for all my life up until my last D. vote for Jimmy Carter. With age I have come to believe more in the eternal values above the temporary values of this world. As for my source for what I believe about Obama, no it did not come from emails but I am not in a trance over ABC, NBC, CBS or the PBS. mom2

Georgia Mountain Man said...

Voting isn't a sin, it's a right. God will not hold me accountable for the way I vote. I vote for the one that most reflects my views and feelings, and as I have said, I can't take another, almost criminal administration like the current one. The current president has violated his oath to protect and defend the Constitution, by sidestepping it every chance he gets. I hold he and his handlers directly responsible for the unnecessary deaths of so many thousands of people. As you say, we all have to answer to God, and Mr. Bush will have his day of reckoning when he has to stand before God and explain it. Unfortunately, for him, he will not have a good explanation. I hear God doesn't care for liars.

It's sad to see a politician try to become something he or she isn't in order to get votes, as is the case with John McCain. He is very uncomfortable trying to talk about religion because he simply isn't that religious.

My grandmother often said, when the preacher got to talking politics, "he's quit preaching, and gone to meddling." I agree whole heartedly. I certainly hope that this country doesn't continue down the path of churches becoming mixed up in politics, and trying to control elections. That's what our forefathers came to this country to escape.

I appreciate your comments, and I certainly hope you will continue to return and comment. Debate of issues is good and I welcome it.

Preaching what the Bible says about moral issues is not politics and the Democrat party has become the party on the wrong side of all moral issues. There is where Christians are going to be held accountable. I grew up poor, in a large family and never was our family on welfare. We believed in work, attended church and not a single child in the family ended up in jail. Now look at society and if you still think welfare has helped, tell me how. My small town is full of young, toothless drug addicts that don't work and spend a lot of their free time fighting and stealing. They don't want to work because it would cut their welfare checks. Government housing is full of young people, more than old and it is abused and looks older than my old house. Neither party is free from greed, but the party platforms are enough to forbid Christians from voting Democrat. I do believe God cares how we vote and I am expecting Obama to win and I don't believe it will be long before we see the horrible consequences, but I also believe we may have gone too far to turn back anyway, so let the Dems have it and take the blame for once. mom2

You seem to be intelligient enough but your fundamentalism has stifled your moral development.
I challenge you if you are serious about your convictions to read Garry Wills, The Rove Era in his book American Christianities.
Andrews, North Carolina Public Library should have a copy.
Google up Reverse Snobbery by Baptist bred Michelle Cottle of Hixson Tn.
Google the Newsweek Religion Blog.
Abortion as a political issue is a wedge issue concocted in Hell to play on fools in the working class to shake down their tax dollars.
All the Bush Women and Cindy McCain are pro choice.
You figure it out.
It don't scour as a political issue.
The wisest Christians I know evolved from this political fundamentalist dogma a long time ago.
Don't get loud with me. Just read Garry Wills and see what a ride you have been taken on.

Sounds like you, mom2, believe the good old days were better, more Godly, so you think God wanted slavery in the U.S.? That became a huge politicl issue. You were taking in the homeless during the Great Depression? You will feed and raise all God's children? Or who do you thik should? Many Christian men leave their children high and dry. I suppose you believe AIDS was God's plan to rid the world of homosexals? Lepers? Lepers were treated like AIDS sufferers, and Jesus walked among them, healing, while others shunned them. Do you find Mother Theresa unholy? Mom2, you are the worst kind of Chrisian. You have all the answers. You judge, against The Bible telling you not to. I pity you. Dear Lord, forgive her, she knows not what she does.

And just what did you just do, Diane?
I thank God for His forgiveness, because without it I would be hopelessly lost. I have not shown anger such as I suspect you feel toward me and as far as your above post indicates, perhaps I am not the only one doing a bit of judging. All those accusations of which you think I am probably guilty of, where did you get those ideas? You do not know me and I said no such things, so who planted those thoughts in your mind to post. We all can do a bit of self examination, couldn't we? mom2
Have a good day in Jesus!
P.S. I don't believe Sarah Palin appeared as dumb as she has been painted either.

Dearest mom2 (afraid to use your real name? I'm not, you COULD know me if you chose to, I can know you only by your comments---so don't fault me on your secrecy)You judged ME when you lumped me into your comment about GMM's friends. Yes, since you blame your town's toothless situation on society, since you are against equality for homosexuals, I can assume you believe AIDS was God's plan. Plan for what? I don't think I am judging you, you defined yourself pretty well. I too grew up in a poor family, no drugs(except for my cancer and multiple sclerosis)drink or never have I smoked. My 101 yr old great aunt worked into her 80s, you say you are retired---are you on or will take Social Security? M aunt got so little SS that she had to live in low inc housing she has more than a few teeth missing(that seems to be significant to you, again, I'm just reading your comments, YOUR words. YOU brought up homosexuals, you cling to the old testament (with no regard in YOUR words)to the history of those times)in your beliefs about the right/wrong of homosexuality and add that to your views about God's will/plan, what do you think AIDS is about? Give your whole name. I do. If you feel I've judged you, allow me to KNOW you. You have passed judgement on my party. I could only know Gov. Palin based on her web site and her recent comments. I feel no anger towards you, people who say just what you say are all around, if I held anger for a stranger such as you, well I hought I made it cclear that I pity you and hope God forgives you. You are mixing political ideals with religious ones; I find that unpatriotic. My brother was a Marine (IS a Marine) during Vietnam, my uncle fought, lied about his age he was so desperate to fight a worthy war WWI, my great great grandfather fought in the civil war. We never had money, we had family. We never blamed the ills of men, flaws of men, on God's will or society. I belive an unexamined life is not worth living. I don't need your suggestion, 'tis done daily. Peace to you my sister. PS--Palin is no dummy and she held her own with Biden. I've stated that before. We have a difficult road ahead, whoever wins. But Obama is my guy.
And, you didn't answer any of my questions---what have you DONE to make your town's problems better?

Diane J Standiford said...

BTW, God's word---God sent his only son to speak his intent, many scholars debate this, I am not a sure of all the answers as YOU are; but I know God was CLEAR (don't mean to yell with caps, just empasize) in his Ten Commandments: THOU SHALT NOT KILL
America killed sooo many innocent women and children in Iraq, how can God possibly be ok with THAT? McCain is fine with those lost souls, he would have us stay many years. ENOUGH

Diane J Standiford said...

Murder, murder, shall not murder. I was trying not to be inflammatory, ut it actually is murder and murder is what we did in Iraq to thousands of non-soldiers or terrorists.

Anonymous said...

diane, I do not brag or boast about what I do to help others. The Word says if I do and am seeking the acclaim of man that I am doing it for the wrong reason and that will be all the reward I will get.
As for murder, is killing an unborn not murder? How about the mass graves that were found in Iraq when we went there, people murdered by their hedonistic leader? Were they not of value to God?
I do still happen to believe in the Old Testament, it ties into the New and is still of value. Jesus came to earth, died on the cross and rose again to provide us a way of salvation if we choose to take Him as our Savior. Jesus is God. God never changes just because the culture does and promotes the ideas of man.
You know, I am not really too interested in this election except to stand up for what I think is right and to hold up for some of God's children that are being maligned. I try to look at the fruit of a life as I cannot see into the heart.
As for my name, it does not matter. I am no celebrity. I am not seeking any fame. Have a good day! mom2

I think "To Obama detractors" has hit the nail squarely on the head. Wedge issues like abortion and same sex marriage are concocted issues to appeal to those who let someone else do their thinking for them and those who are so religious they become blinded by their religion. If it weren't for a few preachers, who are looking for power, and those Republicans, who see these issues as a ladder to power, there would be little notice of them. The politicians ride these issues to the top whether they really believe in them or not. Cheney, for example has a lesbian daughter. In order for his party to stay in power he endorses the anti-gay issues. The Bush women and Cindy McCain are pro-choice, but in order to stay in power they quietly stay out of the argument. Regardless of what the Alaskan Bimbo says, I don't believe she is evil enough to make a daughter, who is a victim of rape or incest have the resulting child. The daughter, if she didn't commit suicide, would be doomed to a life of hell, because every time she saw the child, she would be reminded of that awful moment. No, Sarh Palin would find the nearest (actually the farthest) abortion clinc before you could say "scat." The same for the Bush's, McCains, Dobsons, and all of the other "pro-life" people. When life hits them squarely in the face, they do just like everyone else. They solve the problem quickly and quietly. Those of us who are pro-choice don't want to see abortions as birth control But there are times when they are necessary. The government should stay out of it and let couples, individuals, or whomever make the choice that is best for them. Adoption isn't always the answer and it doesn't relieve anyone of guilt. Ask those millions of women, who gave up their childre for adoption. They don't feel any less guilty than those who have abortions. Which is worse? Knowing that a child of yours is being raised by someone somewhere and you don't know where, or that you decided not to have that child? I certainly don't know the answer, but I wouldn't want the government telling me what I had to do. These are difficult questions that can't be resolved by some back room political dealing or some fundamentalist doctrine that expects you to follow along quietly without question, and if you question it, you are doomed for life, drummed out of the church and ridiculed by your friends as a hopeless sinner.

There is one more point I want to make to diane. The drug "meth" eats peoples teeth up and they wind up with just nubbins in their mouths. I am sure that is not what happened to your grandmother and did not imply that in any way. Meth also causes a lot of people to be violent and my community is minus one young man because his wife was on meth and stabbed him to death. This society is the result of Godlessness and I have lived long enough to see it happen. mom2

Georgia Mountain Man said...

You are so right, mom2. Meth is also a problem in my area of NE Georgia. It is probably the single most important issue, yet it is mostly ignored by the churches and civic organizations. The churches led a major fight and spent many dollars to keep the county dry of alcohol, but did nothing about the real problem, meth. A teenager child of an acquaintance of ours laughed about the alcohol issue and said "what they really need to look at among teenagers is meth not alcohol." It does terrible things to people and you can spot a meth addict a distance away. I'm not sure that Godlessness is the cause. There are churches on every corner and in many shopping centers these days. I can't say that this country is Godless. If it were, there wouldn't be such an emphasis on religion. Families who go to church regularly have issues. Just ask the VP candidate with the unmarried, pregnant teenager. She purports to be extremely religious, but her child failed to learn about unmarried sex. Worse her extrememly religious mom apparently didn't teach her about sex. I believe her emphasis is on abstinence instead of sex education. Didn't work. Godlessness isn't the reason. Bad parenting is probably the real culprit.

We are living in a society that makes it harder for the young people to stay pure. Look at the content of our movies, tv and books, plus what is being taught to them. Underneath all this mess is our turning our backs on God and thinking that man knows more than God. Our culture is running our churches more often than not these days instead of our churches affecting the culture. The Democrat party is not what it used to be and that is why I left, but we are so blind to what has brought us to this sad state and that is why there doesn't look like much hope for a turn around. People with their names on the church rolls don't even understand Christianity and the news from around the world of the seriousness of Islam and the false religions has no effect upon them. God is still in control, but it does not mean things will be pleasant and it is for sure that Obama is not going to make this world into Utopia. There is charisma about some people that is of the devil, that's what the devil is all about....to seek and to destroy and kill. As for sources of news and religion, we have to go outside the mainstream media to learn of Christians being persecuted and killed and it is increasing greatly in the last few years. Don't think it can't happen here. If our moral slide keeps on and the hedge of protection of the Lord is taken away, we will be another country like the middle east. Obama has wide support overseas and it is not because he is so wonderful, it is because they view him as one of them. mom2

Georgia Mountain Man said...

Don't kid yourself, mom2, there is a fundamentalism movement in this country with a goal to take over the government. If that were to happen, we would be in as bad shape as those Muslim countries, who suffer under Muslim fundamentalism. I continue to pity those, who believe that Obama is a Muslim. For some, he is called Muslim as a substitute for black. Others actually have allowed themselves to be brainwashed into believing such foolishness. It is bacause they wanted to believe it to start with. Foreign countries are looking for a reason to like us again. They see Obama as a positive for better relations with us.

Anonymous said...

Some people will fall for anything and evidently, you are one of them and a lot of others. I hope the investigation into all those millions of dollars into the Obama campaign can be tracked down and identified. For all the social issues that you Dems worry about, why don't you suggest Obama give those funds to the poor. That doesn't seem to worry you. I have always heard that birds of a feather, flock together and Obama's friends have all been the same kind.
I am one of those fundamentalist that you and big daddy weave like to make fun of and I have never had a run in with the law, neither has any other Bible believer that I know. Those are my kind of people. Those are my friends. I would not mistreat anyone, but I do pick my friend and I do help the poor as much as lies within my means. mom2

Georgia Mountain Man said...

I have known a number of "Bible Believers" who have had run-ins with the law. No one is perfect. I do not make fun of fundamentalism. I know that you are sincere in your beliefs. That is good. However, there are other points of view. Religious fundamentalism is the same, no matter which religion. Fear is the primary method of operation. The leaders use fear to control their followers. They are taught to fear a different point of view or a different religion. They are intolerant of other religions and other religious beliefs. On the other side, the followers fear retribution if they stray from the Word. We see this in Islamic fundamentalism and we see it in Christian fundamentalism. I reference my latest post, which demonstrates the fear the Bob Jones Unv. has that someone will influence their students. They have someone with them when they leave campus in order to ensure that they toe the line. They are taught to believe only what that school wants them to believe. They aren't allowed to watch TV and there is a reason for that. Other ideas are to be feared. If you aren't open to new ideas or constrasting ideas, how can you ever exist? The Bible can be interpreted so many different ways depending upon your point of view. There is no right or wrong, just another interpretation. So many interpret it in terms of today instead of looking at the influence the environment of the times had on its writers. Then there is the fact that man put the Bible together. There were other books that weren't accepted because they didn't fit the criteria of the ones doing the cannonization. If it were being done today there might be an entirely different Bible. Who knows?

Anonymous said...

Do you believe the Bible? If it is full of errors, where do you turn? I happen to believe it is true and inspired Word of God. I had a feeling that was where our differences stemmed from. mom2

Georgia Mountain Man said...

Now, now, mom2, show me where I said that the Bible is full of errors. I didn't say that anywhere. Don't get like a politician and start twisting my words. I said that it is open to many interpretations and that some of it was written in reference to issues of the day. For example, eating certain foods in ancient times was forbidden. They were forbidden or warned against because they taint easily and sickness can result. I'm speaking of shellfish and pork for example. It isn't a sin to eat those foods, but there are those who feel that way because the Bible warns against it. I can't tell you how many outlandish things I have heard attributed to the book of Revelation.

The basic tennets of the Bible are what are important. The teachings of Jesus about how to treat your fellow man, for example. Jesus didn't throw sinners out. He brought them in and taught them. He didn't refuse to associate with someone, whose actions he didn't approve of. He didn't teach fear. He didn't want adulterers stoned or beheaded or turned out of the church. These are important, not some obscure passage that someone picks out and trumpets as the gospel that we all must live by.

ga. mountain man, by the time I got through reading your comment, if I did not know any better, I would think the Bible has no authority and that God had stepped down from His throne to abdicate to man. Any wonder this world is in such a mess? mom2
