New Republican Twist on an Old Sin

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has put a new twist on an old Republican sin. He now says that John Ensign's admission of adultery is no big deal. Graham said, "I think he will be welcomed back by his colleagues and go back to being a good senator." He also said that Ensign shouldn't have resigned his leadership spot. Graham said this latest Republican admission of yet another Commandment broken is nothing that the GOP should be concerned about. "Most Americans look at this as a personal situation," he added.

Well now. This is a change. Could the GOP be moving to the left? Open marriage and such? Graham went on to say that he had "secret sins" of his own. Does this mean that he has been messing with Senate pages? Does he have a women hidden away in a Washington apartment? Or maybe he has a guy hidden away in a Washington apartment?

How will this little statement play with the fundamentalist base? Will the Christian right accept this view of Graham's that adultery is just a little oversight and nothing to be concerned about? You know, I would bet that we will not hear a peep from James Dobson, John Haggee and their crowd, unless of course a Democrat comes forward with such a "personal situation." It could be that the GOP is simply preparing the way for the biggest adulterer of them all. That's right, NEWT (if he's married, he's cheating) GINGRICH.

Who Stands Between Me and My Doctor?

The President has begun his push for health care reform. His disloyal opposition has repeatedly said that Obama's health plan will put a "bureaucrat" between my doctor and myself. I already have someone between my doctor and me. It is called my insurance company. In order to make money off me, my insurance company wants to charge me an outrageous monthly fee and pay as little as possible for my health care.

My insurance company wants to make my health care decisions instead of allowing my doctor and me to do so. I must get prior approval for any major procedures. If my doctor wishes to prescribe a drug, he must check his PDA to see if my insurance covers it. He either has to look for a drug that is covered, although it may not be as effective, or I must pay an outrageous price for a drug that is not covered.

Recently, a family member had to have a procedure. When I called my insurance company to ask if it was covered, I got a "non answer." The person to whom I spoke would not give me a straight yes or no. She hedged, repeating her "line" several times. Finally, I called the surgeon's office and asked whether my insurance would cover it. I got a definitive yes.

Every time I see an ad for a drug on TV, and they seem to be everywhere, I cringe. How much do the drug companies spend on advertising? Billions, it would seem. I am not going to my doctor and ask for a drug that I see advertised on TV. It is his job to know what I need. We discuss the options and decide what is best based upon his recommendations. Then, as stated above, we have to see if the insurance company will let enough money go to cover it.

To me a part of health care reform needs to come in the form of strong arming the insurance companies into letting the doctor and patient decide what is best, not the insurer. Strong arming the drug companies into spending their money on drugs not advertising and charging reasonable prices for those drugs. I know that research costs money, but those billions spent on needless advertising could pay for a lot of research. Basically, the insurance and drug companies need to be regulated in some way to ensure that they are not gouging the insured.

Then there are the millions out there without health care. No insurance, no drugs. They suffer from a plethora of maladies and have no recourse. There are elderly, who cut down their dosage in order to be able to pay for it and eat a decent meal. That should not be happening.

The Republicans in Congress are going to block any kind of health care reform. It does not matter what is proposed, they are the party of no. They have a great health care plan, paid for by the government, the very thing they oppose. John McCain has that and Medicare, but he will continue to talk about the "Socialist" heath care plan. One Republican had the audacity to say that the President is going to take the best health care system in the world and ruin it. Easy for him to say, when he is the benefactor of a government plan.

I fear that once again nothing will come of health care reform. Millions will continue to suffer with no insurance, the rest of us will continue to pay higher and higher prices for health insurance, while the insurance companies drop more and more coverage. Doctors, whom I have left out of this equation, will continue to pile up the dough, while claiming that they have to pay high malpractice fees. Those fees do not seem to have hindered the purchase of luxury cars and fine homes. Take a look in the doctor's parking lot of your local hospital.

Time will tell us if the President is fighting windmills. Hopefully, this time saner heads will prevail and something will be done to stop this ever growing spiral of health care costs. If not we all may be facing some difficult decisions. The young family starting out with lower pay and the retiree on a fixed income. Those who are out of work and can not afford COBRA. They all face an out of control system that soon may be unable to serve anyone.

Another Republican Racist Hits the Fan

This time it is Tennessee. Sherri Goforth, an executive assistant for Tennessee State Rep. Diane Black (R-Gallatin), sent this picture, titled "Historic Keepsake Photo," in an email to other TN legislative staff. When she got caught, her "apology" was: "I went on the wrong email and I inadvertently hit the wrong button. I'm very sick about it, and it's one of those things I can't change or take back." In other words she is not sorry that she sent the picture, just that she sent it to the wrong people.

Ms Goforth, like the idiot in SC who made a stupid racist statement on Facebook this week, you are a racist Republican, who makes racist jokes about the President, and you do it publicly.

Fear From the Desk of John Hagee and not A Dollar of Tax Money Collected

Below is a very political message, filled with fear and half truths, from a tax exempt ministry. The Rev. John Hagee says in this missive that "one of the foremost messages of this ministry is to shout into the ear of a slumbering America...Wake Up!" In his inevitable quest for more money he goes on to say "...please remember our Television Ministry that is at the point of attack in this righteous cause."

His weekly messages are fraught with political themes. Rarely, if ever, does he talk about saving souls or ministering to those in need. His ministry is at war with Fundamentalist Islam and the Obama Administration and is clearly political in nature. Yet, he continues to receive tax exempt status. Proceed gentle readers, and at your own risk, follow the above link to his weekly messages, where you will find pages of fear mongering, half truths, and, occasionally, outright lies.

Greetings to all of our Salt Covenant Partners and friends across the nation and around the world.

This weekend America celebrated Memorial Day as a time to honor all Military Personnel who have given the last full measure of devotion for the preservation of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Today, America is at war! We are at war with a radical religious element of Islam that feels they have a mandate from their god (Allah) to kill Christians and Jews.

I feel America is in the greatest danger as a nation that we have known since 1776. The elements that led to the attack on Pearl Harbor are all alive and well in Washington and the nation.

There is a sincere feeling among the enemies of America that every effort of our president to placate Iran and bowing before a Saudi prince are signs that Allah is with them and that victory over the West is at hand.

We live in a dangerous world! This weekend North Korea launched two nuclear missiles. As I write this article, Iran is working feverishly to develop a nuclear bomb to attack Israel and eventually the United States of America.

In spite of this obvious danger...America slumbers in a deep deception created by political correctness that all is well and that our enemies are inferior to our military might.

There is a dramatic difference between America and our enemies. They have the absolute will to destroy us...they just lack the weapons. As soon as they have the weapons, you will see a nuclear war breakout in the Middle East and then be transported to America.

If Iran is not stopped from developing nuclear weapons, America will see a terrorist attack that makes 9/11 a walk in the park.

One of the foremost objectives of our television ministry is to shout into the ear of a slumbering America..."Wake Up!"

I need your prayers and your financial support like never before to continue this battle. It is not my battle...it is our battle. This is a fight for the soul and future of America. It is a fight for the future of your children and grandchildren. Whoever wins this war has total control of your children's future.

When you pray...pray for America! When you give...please remember our Television Ministry that is at the point of attack in this righteous cause.

Blessings to you and to those you love.

Check out this Dickipedia summary of Newt Gingrich's life. Hilarious, though it may be, it sadly is based upon the facts. Yet, Newt still fancies himself a viable part of American politics.

Yet Another Republican Racist Stirs the Pot

SC Republican "activist" and racist, Rusty DePass, in commenting on an escaped Gorilla, said, "I'm sure it's just one of Michelle's ancestors - probably harmless." He admitted that he meant Michelle Obama and "apologized," saying "I am as sorry as I can be if I offended anyone. The comment was clearly in jest." Not really an apology is it?

Mr. Depass, you probably did not offend anyone. You just showed how infinitely stupid you are. It appears that Republican and racist are basically one and the same these days. If one admits to being a Republican, it can be pretty much certain that racist can be added to the description. In the South and the few other parts of the country where people admit to being Republicans, open racisim seems to have become fashionable among Republican politicians.

This kind of talk is simply another sign of the rapidly declining GOP. It plays well in the South, but continues to make the GOP a strictly regional party, well on its way out of national prominence. If this kind of grandstanding continues as I am sure it will, the 2010 elections should be the death knell, nationally, for the once "Grand Old Party."
