Newsweek Delves Into Palin's Buying Spree

This is a quote from a new Newsweek story on Sarah Palin's buying habits:

NEWSWEEK has also learned that Palin's shopping spree at high-end department stores was more extensive than previously reported. While publicly supporting Palin, McCain's top advisers privately fumed at what they regarded as her outrageous profligacy. One senior aide said that Nicolle Wallace had told Palin to buy three suits for the convention and hire a stylist. But instead, the vice presidential nominee began buying for herself and her family—clothes and accessories from top stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus. According to two knowledgeable sources, a vast majority of the clothes were bought by a wealthy donor, who was shocked when he got the bill. Palin also used low-level staffers to buy some of the clothes on their credit cards. The McCain campaign found out last week when the aides sought reimbursement. One aide estimated that she spent "tens of thousands" more than the reported $150,000, and that $20,000 to $40,000 went to buy clothes for her husband. Some articles of clothing have apparently been lost. An angry aide characterized the shopping spree as "Wasilla hillbillies looting Neiman Marcus from coast to coast," and said the truth will eventually come out when the Republican Party audits its books.

It will be interesting to learn more of the details of this scandal. I'm sure that Palin will look worse as the days go by. Newsweek also reported that Palin wanted to speak last night at McCain's concession gathering, but McCain's campaign strategist vetoed it. Also included in the article is a report that she once greeted two McCain campaign strategists wearing nothing but a towel. She advised them to talk to her husband, while they waited. I wonder if Alaskans will want to re-elect her should she run in 2010. Then again, they appear to have re-elected a convicted criminal.

Update: FOX News (shudder) is now reporting that aides say that Palin did not know that Africa is a continent and thought that South Africa was a region of the country of Africa. She refused coaching before the Katy Couric interview, then pitched tantrums when the resulting press was bad. We dodged a bullet, when McCain was defeated. It appears that she isn't even qualified to be governor of Alaska. I almost feel sorry for her. She had it pretty good, hidden away up in Alaska stealing the electorate blind. Now the world AND Alaska know her for what she really is, an ignorant, essentially corrupt, politician. Hopefully, the fundamentalist Christian element will let her go and this is the last we will hear from her. Furthermore, I hope this is my last post related to her.
