We've Turned the Corner on Constitutional Rights

For eight long years we saw our constitution regularly brushed aside by the Bush Regime. Innocent private citizens were spied upon by government agents. People were harassed for doing nothing more than checking out a book or discussing a subject of "national security." There were those who attended Bush rallies wearing t-shirts, with nothing more than Bush with a line through it printed upon them, who were harassed and arrested by the Secret Service.

Remember the Dixie Chicks, who were ostracized for saying they were ashamed of the President? Very, very minor comment. Now, people like Limbaugh and Gingrich and others regularly refer to the President as racist, Socialist, NAZI, and Hitler. There is little backlash. Well, Beck has lost his sponsors because of his stupid rantings, but, then, his elevator has never quite stopped on the correct floor. We are turning the corner.

In the last week we have seen people with assault rifles and hand guns standing outside venues where the President was speaking. They were allowed to openly display their lack of good sense for the world to see. People were outraged, but these nutcases were able to exercise their constitutional right to possess a firearm without being harassed or arrested. A far cry from an arrest over a t-shirt. Quite a change, wouldn't you say?
