Making Nice With our "Enemies"

During President Obama's recent trip to South America he met and shook hands with Chavez of Venezuela. He is seen smiling as Chavez presents him with a book. Now the Republicans in their rush to try to find something to hang their hats on have jumped on the President for being nice to those whom the Republicans view as our enemies. Newt Gingrich, one of the top Republican nay sayers is very critical.

“Frankly, this does look a lot like Jimmy Carter. Carter tried weakness, and the world got tougher and tougher, because the predators, the aggressors, the anti-Americans, the dictators – when they sense weakness, they all start pushing ahead,” Gingrich said on “Fox & Friends.”

Come on Newt. Because a world leader smiles when he meets the leader of another country? Weakness? Newt, was Richard Nixon, one of your party's heroes, weak, as he is seen in the photo above, laughing with China's prime minister? What about Ike and Krushchev? Ike and Mamie are smiling in the photo above. Was he weak? Then there is George Bush, holding hands with the Saudi prince. How do you explain that one Newt? You have a problem because the President "bowed" to the Prince on his visit. Georgie held hands with him.

The Republicans continue to amaze me at their efforts to find something wrong with the President. So far they have failed. Most Americans remember our history. They know that the Republican refusal to talk to enemies gives them a failing grade in diplomacy. They know that diplomacy during the Cold War kept it from escalating into warfare, that could have brought an end to the world as we know it. They know that we have to talk to our enemies now, at least those who are legitimate countries. We don't negotiate with Bin Laden and his types, but we have to talk to others.

The Republicans are critical of the new Cuba policy. How will we ever break Cuba, if we don't open relations with that country? Castro is on his way out. If we are going to bring an end to that dictatorship, now is the time to do it. If we can bring some level of prosperity to the people, they will begin to reject the Castro regime. I foresee yet another bullet hole in Republican feet on this one as well.

Keep it up Newt, John "cow fart" Boehner, Michelle "everyone look at me, I'm nuts" Bachman, Rush, Glen. You are all great comedy acts, and I enjoy your routines. Maybe you can make it on the entertainment stage, 'cause you sure aren't making it in politics.

Hi,

The Republicans don't seem to live in the real world they are as you say comedians who shoot themselves in the foot cos they can not see the logic and sense in things because of their irrational prejudices.

Have a good afternoon and evening.

Love,
Herrad

Fear is a sign of weakness. The GOP is so upset that Obama is fearless.

The GOP is having a hard time lately showing some glaring inconsistencies. They keep saying one thing but doing another. This should be their time to really shine, showing themselves to be the party of the disinfranchised --- the "left out" by the DEMs; the party of principle & consensus; the party willing to compromise for the good of the nation; the party that will show some compassion in social issues to steal that away from the DEMs. Instead, they move further to the right --- almost to a Fascist economic ideal --- & let the Religious Right continue to drive the social programs that actually punishes the poor & the underclass. What kind of moron is running the GOP? An even bigger question: how many morons do we have in the US that actually =believe= that GOP rhetoric?
